The Holidays

It is now Christmas Eve and because of lack of funds I have only bought for my SO only. I have just done baking for everyone else.

The two mornings that I did my baking of cookies I was able to do it in 2.5 hours or less each time. I was like a well oiled machine working on an assembly line. I was a blurr in the kitchen with 4 cookie sheets going. This way I always had a sheet in the oven and at least one ready to go in.

Last Saturday it was shortbread cookies. Then this morning it was gingerbread cookies. I hadn't done gingerbread in years so I hope everyone likes them.

I'm not a religious person, but  I like the idea of giving. I believe more in the celebration of the Winter Solstice.

New Computer

Ah a new computer. You never really plan on purchasing a new computer. It is usually the result of the present computer not working or crashing. Well mine started to act up not working correctly and taking a long time to boot up. Grrrrr........

So it was time for a new one. The HP laptop I was using was going on 6 years old and hoped for it to last longer. I researched new HP laptops and found a new one to my liking. At half the price of what I paid for my old one, but with more bells and whistles it was a good deal.

I like the HP computers as I also have a desktop that was purchased two years ago. That replaced another HP desktop that I got in 2002. I actually won it News Year Eve 20001 as a door prize at Bingo. The next morning Pete asked what was in the boxes. I told him it was the computer I won at Bingo. His reply was hook it up.

Within 6 months my new laptop will be outdated. Technology just keeps getting better and better, but to be able to afford it you have to be more than a millionare. Like that will ever happen.

Big Decision

It has been too long since my last entry.

I had been looking for a job since December of 2008 with no luck. I had sent out over 3,000 resumes. Yes that number is correct. I had a few interviews but they led no where. With over 500 applicants for one position competition was very stiff. So I made a big decision the coach full time.

I love teaching and after doing it part time since 1984 I thought why not. More about this in my next entry.

Searching the employment sites every morning has become a job in it's self. There are jobs out there. On average 5 to 10 Resumes have been sent to potential positions. Unless access to a computer with Internet is available there is no way someone can find a job. The Internet has made searching for a job so much easier. Search a site, find some possible jobs send out resumes. It saves on paper, ink, gas and time. Before it was type out Resumes, check out the paper and drive around to potential companies to see if they were hiring. It was hitting the pavement. Now employers don't want you to send in a hard copy of your Resume, they just want it by email. Even faxing has gone by the way side.
The search has been for an administrative or office type employment. After working since the age of 19 in mostly manufacturing positions it's time for a change. Administration is not that difficult. Hard to believe that colleges offer a 3 year course for general administration. For medical or legal a one year course covering the aspects of what is required, but 3 years get real. After searching some of these courses that are being offered they are very basic. Similar to basket weaving 101.

Being Unemployed

With the global economic downfall no ones job is safe. Mine has been hit. So here I sit making looking for a job making that my job until I find new employment. I want to get out of the industry that I have worked in for the last 15 years into something else.
Since I haven't had to look for a job for a number of years I find it so much easier to do now. Remember when you had to actually hand deliver your Resume. You were so limited as to how many that could be delivered in a day. Having to print off the Resumes and Cover Letters. What a pain in the butt that was. It was so frustrating. The main source was the newspaper and that used to take up several pages. Now the employment ads barely take up half a page.
Now you can sit in your jammies and search the job sites tweak the Cover Letter and send it off with the Resume. Never thought I would be able to apply for a job while I'm in my jammies. You can send off so many more this way and not have to leave your home.
